Mumbai: The decomposed body of an aspiring, struggling TV actress Kritika Chaudhary, 27, was found by police in a Mumbai flat in suburban Andheri on Monday at 3.45pm.

The Amboli police broke into her flat in a Slum Redevelopment Authority (SRA) building in Shri Bhairavnath Society after neighbours complained of a foul odour that was coming from the flat. A team of police reached the building and broke open the door and found the body of a woman lying on the bed and who was later identified as Choudhary. The body was sent for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Initially, police registered as an accidental one but after starting their investigation are not ruling death as a suspicious one as the door was locked from outside. Reports suggest that she could have been dead for over three days. When the police entered the flat, the air conditioner was on, perhaps to ensure that the smell of the body did not emanate from the room. Police are also trying to find out if she had a roommate staying with her, had a fight with anyone or was worried about something. So far, no one has been arrested in the case.

The police have intimated her family members and are recording the statements of those who knew her.

Choudhary hailed from Haridwar, Uttarakhand, and like many young girls with dreams of making it big in modelling, TV or Bollywood, had come to the city some years back. In the initial years, she did a few modelling assignments and then got her first break in Parichay, Ekta Kapoor’s TV serial in 2011. Later, she even got a small cameo in Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut’s Rajjo in 2013.

She was a religious person and often visited a temple near her house.
