Hyderabad: When the Daesh group in Libya released two abducted teachers from Hyderabad after a week in captivity, their families in the city heaved a huge sigh of relief.

According to reports from Tripoli, the abductors handed over the assistant professors — Balram and Gopikrishna — to the officials of the Indian embassy on Wednesday.

The news came a day after two other abducted Indians reached home safely after being released.

Andhra Pradesh representative in New Delhi, K. Rammohan Rao said that he received the news of their release from officials of External Affairs. “They are safe and healthy,” he said.

Balram and Gopikrishna will be sent back to India soon, he added.

Relatives and friends gathered at the homes of the two released hostages in Tirumalagiri and Nacharam, and congratulated the family members on the development.

“We are grateful to the government, political leaders, officials and the media for their help in this difficult hour,” said Kalyani, Gopikrishna’s wife.

Family sources said that they were expected to reach Hyderabad on Thursday evening.

The other two hostages, who returned home on Tuesday, belonged to Karnataka. All of them had been working in Sirte University near Tripoli for the past seven years. They were abducted by the gunmen at a check post last Wednesday, when on the way to the airport.
