Patna: A cricket player who could not contain his happiness over his team’s victory in a match reportedly died of heart attack after his team won a cliffhanger.

The incident took place at Telco Club ground in Jamshedpur in eastern Indian state of Jharkhand on Sunday, bringing shock and tears to his family. He was the only son of his parents.

According to reports, Shivam Kumar Dube’s team scored 55 runs while batting first during a 20-20 cricket match.

The victim, an all-rounder, performed well in the match, scoring 19 runs, thus helping his team reach a respectable total.

Reports said the rival team was required to score three runs on the last ball to win the match but it turned out to be a dot ball. Thus, Shivam’s team won the match.

Witnesses said Shivam, who was fielding in the long-off area, got so excited after seeing his team win the match that he ran towards the pitch, taking off his T-shirt and then lying on the ground with his head down.

As he continued lying on the ground for long, his teammates sensed something was wrong with him and rushed him to a local hospital where doctors declared him “brought dead”.

“After the win, Shivam took a round of the pitch bare-chested, receiving accolades from the crowd and was headed towards the pavilion. But he collapsed soon thereafter,” Tata Motors Workers’ Union spokesperson Santosh Singh told the media on Monday.

Reports said the victim was apparently drained when the match was over, indicating he had a serious suffered heart attack.

Team members say Shivam, who was the key behind the scintillating victory of his team, was overwhelmed with happiness and collapsed soon thereafter. The victim was the only son of his retired parents.
