Mumbai: A CCTV footage showed a three-year-old being carried away by an abductor at Navi Mumbai’s Vashi railway station after the mother went to buy a snack outside the station.

The video shows the abductor, who seems like a drunk or a drug addict judging by the way he was staggering, carrying the child in his arms, walking onto platform number three and boarding a local train to Panvel at 1.03pm on September 6.

The mother of the child had come to the station to buy a ‘vada pav’ snack at noon from a food stall and had left the child’s hand to pay when her son probably wandered away.

On turning around she found the child missing, searched everywhere and then informed the police. The cops searched the footage from the CCTV placed over the platform and found a man carrying the child and boarding a Panvel-bound train. The police said they have registered a First Information Report of kidnapping and are investigating the matter.

The Navi Mumbai Police and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) have been conducting a search with the help of the Global Positioning System though the culprit has yet to be nabbed.

The minor has been identified as Raghu Shinde, who lived with his mother in a slum near Kerala Bhavan, Sector 31, Vashi.

The CCTV footage is being circulated and Vashi police have also asked people to contact them if they spot the accused.
