Hyderabad: Differences among three doctors over their partnership in a hospital inaugurated on New Year’s Day culminated in a gory end. While one of them was injured in firing, the other after allegedly opening fire committed suicide with his own revolver.

A day after Uday Kumar was left injured in alleged firing by his partner Shashi Kumar, police found the body of Shashi Kumar in a farm house on the city’s outskirts with a suicide note.

Shashi Kumar, whom the police was searching in connection with the firing incident, shot himself with his revolver fearing that Uday Kumar might have died.

Before taking his life, Dr Shashi Kumar called his wife over phone and told her that he was committing suicide as he was cheated by his friends Dr Uday Kumar and Dr Sai Kumar. He also alleged that he was facing threats from them.

As he switched off his phone, his wife alerted police and with the help of another friend Chandra Kala, Ranga Reddy district police traced him to a farmhouse at Nakkalapally village under Moinabad mandal outside Hyderabad. By the time the police reached him, he had shot himself and they found his body in a pool of blood.

In the suicide note left behind, Shashi Kumar said that his two partners had cheated him and had been threatening him. He denied his hand in Monday’s firing incident and said that he was ending his life as he was afraid that Uday Kumar might have died.

Earlier, the firing incident in a car in Himayatnagar area of Hyderabad on Monday afternoon had created a sensation in the city, and the injured Uday Kumar was rushed to a hospital.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Kamalasan Reddy said that his condition was now out of danger.

Meanwhile, Shashi Kumar’s wife Kanti in a letter to media alleged that Uday and Sai Kumar had murdered her husband and then enacted the drama of firing at Himayatnagar yesterday to save their skin.

Tracing the origin of the dispute among the three, Kamalasan Reddy said that general surgeon Shashi Kumar, Dr Uday Kumar and Dr Sai Kumar had entered into a partnership to set up a new Rs150-million project Laurel Hospital in Madhapur area of Hyderabad. When the project got delayed and funds ran out, they raised loans from NRIs and the hospital was inaugurated on January 1.

However, differences started when Dr Uday, without the consent of Shashi Kumar, brought in another partner. Unhappy with this Shashi Kumar started demanding the return of his investments. Three partners met on Monday in a car in Himayatnagar where after a heated exchange, Shashi Kumar allegedly opened fire at Uday from the back seat of the car with his licensed .32 revolver. However the bullet only grazed Uday’s ear and the other two doctors allegedly fled from the scene. Uday himself went in an auto to a nearby hospital and got himself admitted.

Police booked a case of attempt to murder and arms act violation against Shashi Kumar and started looking for him.

Apart from being a partner in Laurel hospital, Shashi Kumar also owned Sai Niket Hospital and had taken Sigma hospital on lease.
