New Delhi: A Parliamentarian of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Uttar Pradesh (UP) was on Friday caught on camera threatening to “skin a police officer alive” for his alleged misbehaviour with her.

“I will get all the malai out, khaal bhi khichwa lungi [I will get all the illegal wealth seized, will skin you alive],” Priyanka Rawat, Member of Parliament (MP) from Barabanki, told Additional Superintendant of Police (ASP) Kunwar Gyananjay Singh on the phone on Thursday evening.

When asked to clarify in during a press conference on Friday, Rawat repeated the threat without remorse.

She said she would make Singh pay for all the clout he enjoyed during the previous Samajwadi Party (SP) government.

Alleging that the cop was shielding a person accused of murder, Rawat threatened to punish him “in her own way.”

“They [the cops] have reaped enough under the previous government of Akhilesh Singh Yadav. Khaal utaar denge [will skin then alive] if they do not work properly now. I will punish [them] in my own way,” she told media.

According to sources in the police, during the argument on phone between Rawat and Singh, the ASP told her, “I am the police, I know what I am doing”.

However, the MP maintained that Singh had misbehaved with her, exhibiting a poor attitude when she called him about a murder investigation he was supervising.

“We have Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government at the centre and Yogi Adityanath’s government in Uttar Pradesh. Only those who perform will stay in this district. If their conduct does not improve, then we will take strict action and their record will be checked,” Rawat told reporters.

Superintendent of Police Vaibhav Krishna said the video of the Press conference was being examined.

According to sources in the police, a first information report (FIR) is likely to be lodged against Rawat.

Meanwhile, state government spokesperson Shrikant Sharma told media through a statement that “the endeavour of this government and the party is always that the language used by party workers or lawmakers of previous regimes should not be repeated by this government or its lawmakers.”

The incident comes close on the heels of charges against BJP MP from Saharanpur Raghav Lakhanpal for vandalising the residence of the area’s Senior Superintendant of Police (SSP).

Last week, Lakhanpal led a procession without permission and targeted the SSP with a mob, threatening to kill him.

Two days ago, offended that a bank manager was not paying attention to him, BJP legislator Kesar Singh dragged him out of his office premises into a car and beat him black and blue.

Both Lakhanpal and Singh have, however, denied indulging in any kind of violence.
