Patna: A ruling party lawmaker from Bihar has resigned from the party after being subjected to public humiliation, allegedly by health minister Tej Pratap Yadav.

Tej Pratap is the son of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president Lalu Prasad.

Lawmaker Sanoj Yadav had been with the party for more than three decades.

He alleged he was shabbily treated, verbally abused and thrown out of the party chief’s bungalow on Friday evening by Tej Pratap.

According to him, he was humiliated right in the presence of the party president but the latter did not intervene and kept silent.

“I was totally flummoxed by the maltreatment. I couldn’t understand why he treated so badly in full public view. I am shattered,” Yadav who was associated with the party since 1989 told the media on Sunday. He alleged Prasad’s son not only hurled abuses at him but also assaulted him.

“I won’t forget the humiliation in my whole lifetime,” he added.

He said he would appeal to chief minister Nitish Kumar to initiate action against his cabinet colleague and dismiss him from the cabinet.

Reports said Prasad’s son was angry with the party lawmaker after the latter had failed to strongly defend the RJD chief and his family over the issue of corruption during a TV debate. The lawmaker was one of the party’s spokespersons.

The development comes amid the RJD chief facing another rough patch of his political career with his family embroiled in another cases of corruption and barely 18-month-old Grand Alliance reaching the point of collapse over the issue of supporting presidential candidates.

While the JD-U has supported NDA’s Ram Nath Kovind, RJD and the Congress party have lent support to opposition’s Meira Kumar. The trio are coalition partners in the ruling Grand Alliance headed by chief minister Nitish Kumar.
