Patna: Police in Bihar have arrested two people after two school girls in Bihar were asked to remove their uniforms and sent home nearly naked after they failed to pay the school fees.

The incident took place at BR Education Academy, a private school located at Koriya village in Begusarai district, some 140km east of Patna on Thursday but was reported in the media only on Saturday.

The girls, both sisters, were enrolled in lower kindergarten (LKG) and upper kindergarten (UKG). Both the girls are said to be in a state of shock after the incident.

Reports said the girls had been provided school uniforms without any prior information but soon thereafter the school administration began exerting pressure on the guardian to pay the money immediately. The poor parents bought some time to pay the money for the uniform.

“On the fateful day when I went to the school to bring daughters home, the schoolteacher asked me to pay the money. When I said I would pay it tomorrow, the teacher turned angry and took the girls inside her chamber. Then, she sent them nearly naked after taking off their school uniforms. Ultimately, I carried them home naked,” the girls’ father Chunchun Sah told the media on Saturday.

According to him, when he brought the matter to the notice of the school principal, he threatened to assault him, driving him out of his chamber.

Soon thereafter, he took his girls to the local village council chief who spoke to the school principal over phone, but he refused to entertain him. Subsequently, he registered a case with the local police.

Acting swiftly, the police have arrested both the schoolteacher and the principal and sent them to jail.

The state government too have taken the matter seriously and ordered an investigation into the incident. “The incident is very condemnable and severe punitive action will be initiated against the school administration,” Bihar education minister Ashok Chaudhary told the media on Saturday.
