New Delhi: Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday said that his Parliamentary constituency Amethi would develop so quickly in the next 10-15 years that people would talk of Singapore, California and Amethi in the same breath.

“No matter what attempt is made to stall the development of Amethi, no one can stop my Lok Sabha constituency from becoming like California and Singapore. After 10-15 years when people mention Singapore and California, they will also mention Amethi in the same breath,” he said while addressing a public gathering.

Gandhi, who is on a three-day visit to Amethi beginning on Monday, said he would make Amethi a world class education hub.

At the same time, he blamed ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government at the centre and Uttar Pradesh (UP) for killing big projects that he had lined up for Amethi.

“The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government has taken away most of the projects including mega food park and the paper mill which I tried to set up to provide employment to thousands of youth. But I will not be deterred by it,” he said.

Gandhi hoped that despite all the “efforts by BJP to stall development,” Amethi would be able to more than catch up.

He promised that he would try to revive some projects in Amethi.

“I will try to bring back some projects like food park. Unless youths are employed, the country will not progress up to mark,” Gandhi remarked.

He hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi stating that politicians should not be regressive and must look ahead to the future.

“Look at Jawaharlal Nehruji, even Atal Behari Vajpayeeji. They used to speak about the future. But look at the current Prime Minister. He only looks to the past, spreads hatred,” Gandhi said.

When asked about poor state of electricity supply in UP, he held BJP responsible for the same.

“Amethi ko Yogi Adityanathji chalate hain. mein Member of Parliament hoon. Mera kaam Lok Sabha mein kanoon banane ka hai … Magar Yogi ji ka kaam UP ko chalane ka hai, aur Yogi ji dusara kaam kar rahe hain (Yogi ji is managing UP ... I am an MP and my job is only legislation. Adityanath is not doing his job rightly),” Gandhi said.

Earlier, when ATMs suddenly ran dry in several states, Gandhi on Tuesday attacked Modi stating that the latter has destroyed the banking system of the country.

He slammed PM for his silence on banking frauds committed by diamond merchants Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi.

“Modiji destroyed the banking system. Nirav Modi fled with Rs300 billion and the Prime Minister didn’t utter a word. He only ushered in ‘acchhe din’ (good days) for fugitive jewellers Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi,” Gandhi had told media.
