New Delhi: A week after her nine-month-old daughter was snatched from her and thrown out of an auto-rickshaw by three men who then gang-raped her, a 23-year-old woman in Gurugram (Gurgaon) on Wednesday revealed some disturbing facts.

The woman, who was raped for four hours in the auto-rickshaw on the night of May 29, took the body of the infant on the metro to Delhi after she was told by doctors in a local hospital that she was dead.

“The victim’s husband had a fight with their neighbour and left the house. The woman felt scared and decided to go to her in-laws’ house. She took a ride on a truck but got off after the driver molested her. Later, she took an auto-rickshaw around midnight from Manesar. She was sexually assaulted by three men including the driver of the auto-rickshaw. When the victim’s child started crying, one of the men threw the toddler out of the vehicle,” Gurgaon police commissioner Sandeep Khirwar told media.

The police said the woman travelled with her dead child in the metro the morning after her assault.

“She first took her baby to a hospital in Gurgaon. When told her daughter was dead, she could not believe it. Holding the dead body, she travelled on the metro to a hospital in Delhi. When the second hospital confirmed the death, she returned to Gurgaon, where she was picked up at a metro station by her husband,” Khirwar added.

The police has conducted a post-mortem on the infant. They have released sketches of three men and appealed to the public to come forward with information.

“So far, about 50 auto-rickshaw drivers have been questioned and a few detained. A special investigation team has also been formed to investigate the case,” police sources said.

On Wednesday, Gurugram police arrested one suspect and said that the hunt was on for others.

Meanwhile, the victim’s husband is inconsolable.

“My family has been shattered. I was mourning the death of my daughter when my wife revealed about the gangrape. I want the police to make the arrests as soon as possible,” he told media on Wednesday.

He has revealed that the police earlier did not register a complaint of gang-rape, but included the charge only six days after the incident.
