“I don’t think either candidate is good and so, I decided not to vote this year. However, I do hope Hillary Clinton wins. She’s a little more capable than Donald Trump. But both of them are the worst candidates that the US has seen. In the beginning, when Trump decided to run, I thought it was a joke. But, it was shocking to see the amount of people supporting him. In the US, differentiation between class and racism are things people don’t talk about. But now, Trump supporters are showing that it still exists and is widely accepted.”

“I’ve been following Hillary Clinton’s campaign since 2008 and the change in demographic is favourable to her party. Minorities and educated voters have increased. Everyone knows that Donald Trump doesn’t know anything. He is racist, sexist, divisive and has no experience in governance. This is the dirtiest elections in US history. Everything is so personal. Each candidate is trying to attack the other, by raising personal issues. The 2008 and 2012 elections were a referundum to the previous Republican administration, which was responsible for the global financial crisis.”

“Between the two candidates, I think Donald Trump is better. At least he says what is on his mind and does not keep secrets. I’m not saying he is entirely good, because he has said a lot of things against immigrants and Muslims. But, he is better than Hillary Clinton, who has many cases against her and has made a lot of mistakes, too. She isn’t telling people the whole truth.”

Thuan Rasheen, a Sri Lankan national based in Abu Dhabi

“I am sure that Hillary Clinton will win. She is ready to bring change. She can try to solve the problems in Syria, or other countries facing difficulties. Donald Trump’s intentions are bad. He is just targeting immigrants and Muslims and discriminating against them. His words would affect a lot of societies. Instead of uniting people and serving them well, he only seems to be planning evil.”

Amir Ahmad Omar, a Kenyan national based in Sharjah

“Both candidates are bad, but Donald Trump seems like the better choice. Hillary Clinton has proved that she isn’t a good politician in her position as Secretary of State. Trump has been saying many things that people cannot accept, but that is due to his inexperience in politics. This is the worst and most controversial election in US history. With all the focus on hacked emails and rigging, it shows how bad things are.”

Gayan Senanayaka, a Sri Lankan national based in Dubai

“The ideal candidate is Hillary Clinton. No one knows any of the candidates inside out. But, one truth about Donald Trump’s personality was revealed with his sexist comments. On the other hand, nothing is apparent about Clinton and she does appear to be more respectful. So, as a woman, with a focus on women’s empowerment, I think of her. I remember when Bill Clinton was president, he did a lot for social issues. [With] that perspective, I feel she is the better choice.”

Maheen Abbas, a Pakistani national based in Abu Dhabi

“Hillary Clinton is a better candidate. Being a Muslim, I have a bad impression of Donald Trump due to his anti-Muslim comments. Clinton might have a similar opinion, but she is not showing it. It’s better to be neutral. In the past elections, it didn’t seem this hyped up. But, this time, whether people know anything about any other country or not, they definitely know about the US elections.”

“Hillary Clinton is definitely the better candidate. There is a lot of attention on these elections, mainly because of Donald Trump, who clearly hates immigrants. He has said a lot of things in the past year and has come up with many ideas that have created problems in both the US and around the world. If I could vote, I would pick Clinton, because I stand for women’s empowerment. She will be a good president.”
