Thiruvananthapuram: Movie icons in Kerala may not command the demigod status of neighbouring Tamil Nadu, but a youth here lost his life this week when he accidentally tripped and fell from the top of a giant hoarding he had climbd to idolise Tamil film hero Vijay.

The youth, identified as Unnikrishnan (25), son of Sivadasan of Vadakkancherry and an activist of the local Vijay Fans Association reportedly tripped from a height of nearly 20 feet after ritualistically pouring milk over a giant flex board of actor for the newly-released movie Kathi on Wednesday. Unnikrishnan was a construction worker and has two siblings.

Local media reported Unnikrishnan climbed to the top of the theatre after the inaugural show and fell through the asbestos roof in a freak accident after pouring milk over the giant hoarding of the actor.

He was rushed to hospital but succumbed.

Local media reported Vijay offered his condolences to the family of the deceased on social media, while requesting fans to “show your support in ways that do not endanger your lives”.

Fans are seeking financial support for the family of Unnikrishnan and expect Vijay himself to visit the deceased’s family.
