Dubai: The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) signed a memorandum of understanding to develop projects, strengthen institutions and build the necessary skills to deliver electricity and water services based on renewable resources and technologies. Electricity demand in the UAE is projected to rise by over 50 per cent by the end of 2020 due to a growing population, growing markets and rapid industrialisation, prompting intensified efforts to develop solar and wind energy.
