Rabat: Morocco is to host the next “Friends of Syria” meeting on the country’s conflict in October, rather than in September as originally scheduled, official sources said on Friday.
The Moroccan news agency MAP said Foreign Minister Sa’ad Al Deen Al Othmani discussed the meeting “planned for October” with his Turkish counterpart Ahmet Davutoglu in New York on Thursday.
A Western diplomat in Rabat told AFP the meeting was pushed back to follow the UN General Assembly which is held each year in September, although an exact date and venue for the Morocco gathering have yet to be announced.
France hosted the last “Friends of Syria” meeting in July aiming to coordinate Western and Arab efforts to stop the bloodshed which has ripped through the Arab country since March 2011.
