Abu Dhabi: A fund-raising campaign to help Syrian refugees has been launched by the Emirates Women Police Association in cooperation with Emirates Red Crescent (ERC).

Copies of the Quran, clothing and prayer mats will be collected and eventually sent to the UAE camp in Jordan.

A delegation from the association had previously visited Syrian refugee camps and assessed their situation in order to meet their needs. “This campaign encompasses the whole country and coincides with the holy month of Ramadan...The members are now collaborating to meet these needs,” said Major Ameenah Mohammad Al Beloushi, Chairperson of the Association and Regional Director for Women Police in the Middle East.

“The Emirates Women Police Association is a major contributor, with the ERC, in all initiatives and functions launched within the country and abroad,” she added.

Earlier, Al Jazeera International Catering (JIC) had also extended its efforts to Syrian refugees by providing food, clothes, footwear and blankets under a social event held at Al Jimi Workers Village on Sunday.

Earlier this month, the ERC had sent its 13th convoy to the Syrian refugee camps in Jordan. These consisted of nine truckloads of 110,000 tonnes of relief materials and food such as rice, flour and biscuits, in addition to blankets, children’s toys, water coolers and mattresses.
