Abu Dhabi: A number of charity initiatives have been announced by the UAE on the occasion of Ramadan. They range from local to foreign aid distributed to various countries.

In implementation of the directives of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the team overseeing implementation of the UAE’s project to help Pakistan, have announced an initiative to distribute 2,400 tons of food among 30,000 families in camps for people displaced by floods and military operations in Pakistan.

According to a statement made by the project team, the food assistance, worth over $1.5 million, will be distributed among displaced families in Jalozai Camp, which is considered the largest refugee camp in Pakistan and includes about 13,600 displaced families.

The team also stated that the distribution of food aid comes in implementation of the directives of Shaikh Khalifa to provide humanitarian and food aid for displaced Pakistanis to alleviate their suffering and difficult circumstances.

As part of the initiative, food parcels, each weighing 80 kgs, will be distributed containing flour, rice, sugar, salt, lentils and tea, enough to sustain a single family for the whole month.

The Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Humanitarian Foundation (KBZHF) announced that it will distribute around 1.7 million iftar meals in the UAE, while 500,000 meals will be distributed abroad. The aid, part of the Foundation’s iftar project, will be distributed through a partnership with 600 Emirati families in the UAE, UAE embassies, and international organisations. Mohammad Al Khouri, Director-General of KBZHF, said the foundation’s partnership with Emirati families, who will be preparing iftar meals, is the first of its kind in the UAE and region.

Meanwhile, Humanitarian Appeal International (HAI) reported that it will distribute 150,000 iftar meals in the yards of Al Aqsa Mosque in Occupied Jerusalem. Ebrahim Rashid, Director-General of HAI in the West Bank, said the authority’s preparations are on-going to ensure that all iftar meals are prepared on time. He added that Occupied Jerusalem’s Waqf Department is exerting massive efforts to supervise and organise the distribution of the iftar meals and ensuring that they are up to par with health standards of Ramadan meals. He pointed out that the distribution will also be carried out through societies and restaurants who possess permits from the necessary official bodies.
