Malek Sultan Al Malek, 33, is the managing director of Dubai Internet City (DIC) and Dubai Outsource Zone (Doz), both members of Tecom Investments and leading clusters in the technology and outsourcing industries in the UAE. Known for his business acumen and leadership skills, he has always believed in supporting young entrepreneurs, encouraging innovation and establishing Dubai as a hub for indigenous talent.
He has been associated with DIC since 2002 and has contributed immensely in positioning the techhnology zone as a leading technology hub in the Middle East. Currently, DIC is home to several renowned IT Fortune 500 companies, and 1,400 specialised industry leaders from diverse segments of the information and communication technology sector. Under his leadership, DIC posted strong growth in 2010 (the year he was promoted to managing director) with more than 150 companies establishing operations at the technology park.
Al Malek is also at the helm of Doz, the world’s first business park dedicated exclusively to the outsourcing industry. He is responsible for ensuring that the free zone maintains its competitive edge for companies in the onshore outsourcing business. In 2009, Doz was listed as one among the 50 special economic zones of the future by the Foreign Direct Investment magazine.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree from UAE-based Higher Colleges of Technology and Masters in business administration from Bradford University in the UK. He is also a board member of the Energy Management Services International, an organisation that helps businesses develop innovative and sustainable energy management solutions and achieve their CSR goals.
