It appears that last September’s headline-making deal that saw Microsoft purchase Nokia is finally bearing fruit for consumers in the guise of a new Windows Phone OS. The Finnish phone-maker now prepares for an assault on the Android-dominated phablet market. The vanguard of this attack comes in the form of the Nokia Lumia 1520.
The polycarbonate unibody design, now ubiquitous across Lumia devices, offers a sturdiness rivals often struggle to match. The 1520’s screen size breaks new ground at six inches. The Gorilla Glass 2.0 screen means accidental scratches should be easy to avoid and Nokia has ensured that readability isn’t diminished in sunlight.
In terms of hardware, the 1520’s standout feature is its camera, which offers 20 megapixels, a Carl Zeiss lens, snappy responsiveness and a feature that highlights people’s faces at night. Nokia also throws in Storyteller mode, which offers relatively easy editing and seamless transitions between video, images, insertion of background audio and even visual location mapping. The 1520 packs a quad-core Qualcomm 2.2Ghz Snapdragon processor using 2GB of RAM. However, most developers are yet to provide apps that can fully utilise the 1080p display. The 1520 comes with a full Microsoft Office suite.
