I am not sure I would be qualified to comment as I have my own business and all my devices serve a dual purpose [they are used for both official and personal work]. However, my iPad is my most valuable asset as it contains just about everything I need. Be it a presentation to a client or giving project updates, it is the right tool for the job.

I recently bought Samsung Galaxy S, just to try its features. I am happy with its 4-inch Super AMOLED display with 480 x 800 resolution pixels. Its speed is also impressive. The 5 megapixel camera is also not bad. It is a great gadget to carry around as well — my social media and work needs are met and in style.

In the modern world it’s impossible for a professional to work without a mobile device in her/his pocket. With my Samsung Galaxy Note, I can check my  important work emails and take pictures any time, anywhere.

I think it could be better if people brought their own laptops to work, avoiding confusion between different operating systems. I’d bring my Mac because it’s so user-friendly. But I guess it would be hard to maintain security when people connect their devices to office systems, so there needs to be some rules in place to protect data stored centrally.

The bring your own device (BYOD) trend is totally acceptable if it facilitates and not impedes employee performance. My Apple earphones serve me well in this regard. I just plug into my laptop and listen to music of my choice, which keeps me focused and cut off from the office din.

My BYOD of choice is a top-of-the-line coffee machine. I can indulge in Brazilian coffee and invite my work colleagues to my desk rather than the cafe for coffee meetings. No queues in the kitchen, no paper cups. What better way to win friends and influence people at work?

I bring my Macbook and iPhone to work because I prefer my personal set-up and often work from home. The IT team in my office is okay with me logging into the network since I don’t access any top-secret data. I work as an illustrator, so in case I lose my laptop, the only risk I run is someone browsing through four years of published cartoons.

I like the idea of BYOD. For a small business owner there is less financial investment with costs shared by employees, who are also more likely to use the latest technology at work. My concern is data protection — if everyone uses their own device, they could walk away with company information.
