Sharjah: Sharjah Police have launched an investigation after a child and a man died after falling from buildings in separate incidents, an official told Gulf News on Sunday.

In the first incident, a five-year-old girl died after falling from the window of her 15th floor apartment on Sunday morning.

The Pakistani girl died on the spot, police said. The girl is believed to have climbed a chair kept near the window.

The accident is the latest in a disturbing string of falling deaths from high-rise buildings.

A Sharjah Police officer said the girl lived with her family in a building in Al Taawun area.

The operations room received a call at a round 6am reporting that a girl had fallen from the balcony of a residential building.

A team from Al Buhairah police station, a forensic expert and paramedics moved immediately to the scene of the incident.

The body was sent to Al Qasimi Hospital and then to the forensic laboratory. It will be handed over to the parents after completing formalities.

Sharjah Police are investigating the incident.

They appealed to parents to ensure their children are always under supervision and never place movable items under windows or in balconies.

Access to balconies should also be closely watched. The parents will be questioned later, said police.

Indian worker falls to death

In another incident, a 40-year-old Indian worker fell from an under-construction building in industrial area No 13.

The worker was pronounced dead at the scene and the body moved to the forensic laboratory.

Police have interrogated several people to determine the cause of the worker’s death.
