Dubai: A fire broke out at a construction site on Palm Jumeirah on Tuesday, but firefighters managed to extinguish the flames within a quarter of an hour, a Civil Defence spokesperson said.

There were no reports of injuries.

“The fire broke out at 11.56am. Firefighters rushed to the scene and contained the fire within 16 minutes,” he added.

The fire erupted as labourers were working on the air-condition system.

“Buildings under construction are prone to fires,” the spokesperson said, “Tuesday’s fire sparked from the air-conditioning system, which was still being fixed into the edifice. Thankfully no one was injured. It was a small fire. Our officers managed to extinguish it by 12.15pm .”

A resident of the Palm said traffic had built up near the site of the fire at noon when she noticed the smoke.

A little before 1pm, there was “no sign of commotion. I don’t see the smoke now and the traffic is clear. I can’t hear any sirens,” she added.

Some residents also shared their images of the fire on Twitter.
