No one injured in the fire that broke out in the three-storey building
Dubai: A fire broke out in a three-storey building on Dubai's 2nd December Street in Diyafa area on Sunday afternoon, sending tenants rushing out into the street.
No one was reported injured. A police official on site said "Everybody's OK", but declined to comment any further.
According to tenants, the fire started at around 4pm on the first floor in a four-bedroom apartment housing eight "bachelors".
"I smelled smoke and the fire alarm went off, so we rushed out of the building," said Shins, a tenant from Kerala, India who lives next door to the affected apartment.
"I heard it could have been an electrical fault that caused the fire but I don't have any confirmed information. The smell of smoke is too strong for us to go back in."
The fire, in Sedar building, seemed to have licked the upper floor as well, which was left blackened.
Following the fire, the street was closed to traffic to allow firefighters and first responders to attend to the emergency.
The street was reopened to traffic after 6pm.
