Abu Dhabi: Emirati women celebrated the generosity and achievements of the ‘Mother of the Nation’ during an event at Emirates Palace Hotel on Sunday to mark Mother’s Day.
This year’s annual celebration saw the Emirates Business Women Council organise an event to showcase the life and work of Her Highness Shaikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union, Supreme President of the Family Development Foundation and President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood.
Fatima Obaid Al Jaber, executive board chairwoman of the Abu Dhabi Business Women Council, said: “Shaikha Fatima’s instructions were intended to boost UAE women’s participation in and contribution to various economic, commercial, and services activities. Nowadays Emirati women are at the heart of high-performing teams triggering growth and are taking brave steps into senior positions.”
The one-day event also consisted of a photo exhibition that highlighted Shaikha Fatima’s contribution to the progress of women globally in addition to an exhibition of some of her most recognised speeches and poems.
“We applaud the fantastic work being done by the UAE Business Women Council. The direct impact being made by this organisation in accelerating the progress of Emirati women and enhancing their contribution in the business world is something that should be supported wholeheartedly,” Mohammad Nasser Al Ganem, Director-General at the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), said.
“We have exhibited around 25 photos, which have been created by some successful Emirati women. I have participated with two of my works, which mainly focus on the UAE sea and highlights the country’s natural attractions,” Mohammad Al Astad, Emirati artist and graphic designer, told Gulf News.
A commemorative book titled Mother of the Nation-Pride of the UAE will be issued to shed light on a number of aspects of Shaikha Fatima’s life and her involvement in advancing the position of women, both in the UAE and across the world.
The event was held under the patronage of the Department of Presidential Affairs.
