Dubai: Kuwaiti telecommunication operator Zain said it has received an offer for most of its Africa businesses, which represent a key market for the mobile phone company.

The company said in a statement on Sunday the offer covers its operations on the continent outside Morocco and Sudan. It did not say who made the offer.

Kuwait's Al Rai newspaper on Saturday reported that India's Bharti Airtel had made a bid for the African operations, without naming its sources.

Bharti could not immediately be reached for comment.

Zain said its board plans to discuss the offer Sunday and will release additional details "as appropriate."
