Dubai: Du announced on Tuesday that it will offer customers free mobile browsing on the new 0.facebook.com website.

In cooperation with Face-book, this new service will enable du customers, currently over three million people in the UAE, to log into their Facebook accounts from any mobile web browser free of mobile internet data charges.

Facebook's 0.facebook.com site is a lightweight version of Facebook's mobile site m.facebook.com. It doesn't load graphics or photos but the website has been designed to work on du's network. Photos posted on Facebook are only a click away from 0.facebook.com.

Data charges

To view a photo, a user needs to click on the link to the photo which then directs them to leave 0.facebook.com. Standard data charges will apply when a person leaves 0.facebook.com.

Any du customer holding a handset that is capable of browsing the internet can access the new service, except for BlackBerry Plan subscribers and Opera Mini browser users, the telecoms operator said.

"With social media, and in particular Facebook, becoming an integral part of people's life — from social use to business-related social media platforms — du understands the continually evolving needs and demands of its modern customers," said Farid Faraidooni, du's Chief Commercial Officer.

"We are always looking to work with innovative companies to provide simple and fast mobile access to Facebook across the world," said Henri Moissinac, Head of Mobile at Facebook.

"Thanks to our continued collaboration with du, we can deliver 0.facebook.com together, providing a high-quality and more affordable way to access Facebook for the UAE's discerning mobile market."
