Abu Dhabi: Local telecommunication services provider Du yesterday announced its new “Easy Roaming” offer – wherein subscribers can enjoy voice, SMS and data rates similar to those in the UAE when using 100+ preferred partner networks in 45 countries, without any deposit

“We understand that our customers want to keep in touch with the people who are important to them at all times, no matter where they are in the world. We are pleased to have partnered with more than 100 operators in 45 of the most popular destinations for UAE travellers, allowing us to remove roaming rates and give our customers the freedom to call their family and friends or use data at the same cost as doing so at home,” said Fahad Al Hassawi, Du’s chief commercial officer, in a statement.

To enjoy Easy Roaming, customers must opt-in for the service by sending SMS ‘Easy’ free of charge to 5102, either while in the UAE or abroad. “Both post-paid and Pay as you Go customers can enjoy Easy Roaming for an activation fee of Dh10.” However, for the first month of launch, Du said it has waived the activation fee for all.

In contrast, subscribers of Etisalat are offered roaming packages by the telecommunication services major where customers can sign up for daily, weekly or monthly packages. Access to the internet begins at Dh25 per day, and the package allows customers to receive calls for 50 fils per minute. Etisalat’s monthly “Traveller Pack” offer, which costs Dh500, includes 1GB of data and 1,000 incoming minutes of calls.

In April, Etisalat said postpaid customers without subscription to etisalat’s roaming services will be able to receive incoming voice calls and send/receive SMS by default while travelling abroad without having to pay the refundable roaming deposit of Dh2,000.
