Dubai Tourism and Commerce Marketing will join the Emirates Group and GE as a principal partner of Intelak, a technology-focused incubator.

A statement on Wednesday said Dubai Tourism, the tourism authority of the emirate, will offer its expertise in areas of the aviation and travel journey that are core to Intelak.

It will also provide a business-to-consumer link to the incubation programme by introducing teams at the incubator to relevant industry partners in the travel and tourism sector.

Dubai Tourism said it was looking to strengthen its position as a supporter of innovators in the wider tourism sector and to boost start-ups in the industry.

“The overall aim of the initiative is to foster and support a strong culture of innovation that can bring about the next cutting-edge idea to help redefine the travel experience,” said Abdul Aziz Al Ali, executive vice-president for human resources at Emirates. “Dubai Tourism’s participation in Intelak will also ensure a strong injection of expertise from the travel and tourism sector into the incubation programme.”

Launched in September 2016, Intelak gives entrepreneurs and students an opportunity to submit business concepts in tourism, travel, and aviation. It then provides winning teams with funding of Dh50,000 each and mentorship.
