Abu Dhabi: FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. and the world’s largest express transportation company, has announced that it is expanding its operations in the UAE with the opening of a 31,000 square foot depot in Abu Dhabi.

Strategically located at the Abu Dhabi International Airport, the facility provides enhanced connectivity to the FedEx regional hub in Dubai, and aims to improve service coverage to the fast-growing industrial areas and upcoming developments within the capital.

In addition to pick-up and delivery, the facility integrates FedEx’s customs clearance operations, enabling improved service capabilities within Abu Dhabi.

“In today’s dynamic business environment, speed-to-market and reliable service are the two key factors that help our customers maintain a competitive edge,” said David Ross, Senior Vice President, Operations, of FedEx Express Middle East, Indian Subcontinent and Africa. “Our expansion in the capital further strengthens our position in addressing this need. The new facility in Abu Dhabi will also help us support the UAE Government’s vision to develop infrastructure for a diversified and sustainable economy.”

The new facility features state-of-the-art technology with advanced package processing systems. It is equipped to accurately sort up to 3,000 packages per hour, thus ensuring faster handling and delivery of time-sensitive inbound and outbound shipments in the UAE.

The latest expansion in Abu Dhabi is indicative of FedEx’s continuous growth and commitment to connect customers in the UAE and the rest of the region. FedEx’s recent expansions across the UAE include developments in Dubai, such as doubling the capacity of the Al Quoz station, as well as the opening of a new facility in Al Garhoud, which houses more than 200 FedEx Express team members, an operations station, 24/7 customer service call centre, and a retail service centre.

In 2011, FedEx also opened a facility in the Jebel Ali Free Zone, offering customers based in the industrial area convenience and greater connectivity to the FedEx global network for their shipping requirements.
