Dubai: Drydocks World, Dubai has just celebrated the completion of seismic vessel NB65 it has built for its client WesternGeco.
Drydocks World, Dubai is described as the region's largest ship repair, conversion and new-building yard and the flagship operation of Drydocks World Group.
A naming ceremony for the new vessel, now called WG Cook, was recently held at the Dubai yard.
The ultra-modern vessel was the second built at the yard for WesternGeco, a business segment of Schlumberger, one of the world's leading geophysical services companies.
The first vessel, WG Tasman, was delivered in the first quarter of 2010.
The WG Cook, now undergoing final touches, is 88.8 metres in length, eight metres draught, 19 metres in width and is of Ulstein SX 124 design.
It incorporates the innovative X-bow hull design which is reputed to offer exceptional performance in speed, fuel efficiency, and reduced noise and vibration.
A Dubai yard spokesman said it took great care to ensure the ship's functional capabilities met the stringent demands of offshore seismic operators.
The diesel-electric propelled, DP2 class WG Cook has been described as incorporating many features to enhance performance, and complying with DNV Clean Design to ensure minimum emissions.

In that time Drydocks World claims it has become a major force in the offshore, shipbuilding, repair, conversion, shipping and chandlery sectors.
In the Middle East, Drydocks World, Dubai has been described as one of the world's largest and best-equipped shipyards with a comprehensive range of facilities and supported by three ultra large crude carrier graving docks. It is capable of docking vessels up to one million tonnes.
Drydocks World New Jadaf, at Maritime City, has 44 dry berths and features two ship lifts with a cap-acity of 6,000 tonnes and 3,000 tonnes, respectively.
Multiple ship-repair options and self-service facilities are also available at Drydocks World Jadaf.
In Southeast Asia, Drydocks World operates in shipyards in Singapore, Graha, Nanindah and Pertama.
Collectively they offer a total of 29 building berths, eight floating docks and a specialised rig-building yard.
