Dubai: DP World, the Dubai-based container terminal operator, Wednesday denied media reports that there was a dispute with the Egyptian government over Sokhna port, operated by DP World.

"In the last five months of this year, DP World Sokhna experienced unexpectedly huge volumes, which increased 60 per cent for import cargo and 88 per cent for export volumes compared with the same period last year.

"Those volumes exceed the space available on vessels calling at Sokhna, causing congestion at the container terminal and adversely impacting customers," DP World said in a statement.

"Contrary to one media report, there is no conflict whatsoever with the Egyptian Government; indeed we are working co-operatively and constructively with the Egyptian Government and the port authorities to immediately solve the issue. The needs of customers remain uppermost."
