Dubai: Mina Zayed, the downtown port in Abu Dhabi City, has been confirmed as the new permanent terminal for Abu Dhabi’s cruise industry.

“The current temporary terminal site has now been earmarked as the site of the permanent one,” Mubarak Al Muhairi, Director General, Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi), stated.

Updating delegates on Abu Dhabi’s cruise sector progress, Al Muhairi announced a site for the permanent facility had now been selected.

Mina Zayed was the location of Abu Dhabi’s commercial hub until container shipments began shifting to Khalifa Port last year. Since then a temporary cruise terminal has been erected at Mina Zayed catering to cruise passengers.

Abu Dhabi is already looking for a secondary port location with Al Gharbia, the Western Region, identified as a location for a day stop-over.

“It has identified a stretch of stunning beach on Delma Island and has the backing of the local municipality. We will now commission design of a dedicated cruise stopover beach, with amenities, for a totally relaxing stopover. We aim to have this ready for inclusion in your 2015/2016 itineraries,” Al Muhairi stated.
