Dubai:  Now you can call any network in the Philippines for less than 0.75 fils per second -- or 45 fils per minute.

The UAE's second telecom carrier du has announced on Wednesday it reduced the call rates to allow its loyal customers to stay in touch with families and friends in the Philippines, the official news agency WAM announced.

"One phone call home can make all the difference to a person's life, and as part of our mission to add value to all of our customers' lives, we are pleased to introduce the lowest calling rates to the Philippines yet," said Fahad Al Hassawi, Chief Commercial Officer of du, was quoted as saying.

"Expats from the Philippines form a large portion of our customer base, and in a bid to show our appreciation for their loyalty, we are enabling them to connect more with their loved ones at the market's lowest calling rates."

He said the drop in call rates is part of an on-going initiative by du aimed at connecting loved ones from various communities living in the UAE.

Al Hassawi said du believes offering customers the lowest calling rates will improve their quality of life by giving them the option of calling home more frequently and, as a result, feeling closer to their loved ones.

The service entails a Dh1 call setup fee.

To activate the lowest calling rate option simply dial *135*71# and choose option 1.
