Dubai: Etisalat on Monday launched a SIM card for the latest version of the Apple iPad.

The device will allow users to connect the device to the internet using a 3G connection.

Customers can purchase the card for data use or to replace an existing card for Dh25, which can be done at the etisalat business centre.

Khalifa Al Shamsi, Senior Vice President of Marketing for etisalat, said the telecom service provider had been planning the card’s launch in some time and was counting on the device’s popularity to drive sales of the new SIM card.

“The amount of users who would like to have this device and experience is quite high,” he said.

He also said etisalat is offering the SIM card through its Tawa’am package, which will allow users to share their mobile data package between two devices, such as a smartphone and the iPad.

“You can have two SIMs with the same number that will work simultaneously and allow you to get both devices on the internet at the same time.”

The Tawa’am card is available for a one-time payment of Dh100, although etisalat is offering a promotion that gives customers 100 minutes of local calls and 100 SMSs credited to their account over a period of five months.

The Apple iPad is a tablet-style device similar to the Apple iPhone that can play videos and music as well as allow users to access the internet. Apple announced the launch of the 3G version of the iPad on Friday, May 1.

The entry level price for the 3G version on the iPad in the US is $629.
The new cards will be available for both post and prepaid plans.
