Dubai: Dubai is expected to be among the top seven maritime centres in the world by 2020, according to a survey by the Menon Business Economics Group, cited in a statement from the Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA) on Tuesday.

Industry analysts and authorities said that Dubai is likely to be the seventh leading maritime capital of the world, ahead of cities like London, New York, Tokyo, Copenhagen and Rio de Janeiro, as per the statement.

“Being the number one in the region, and among the top players globally, indicates that we are moving in the right direction toward accomplishing the vision of our wise leadership. The Dubai maritime sector strategy, which was launched in 2012, is centred around creating sustainable development by providing world-class services, infrastructure, and business-friendly regulations,” said Abdullah Abdul Rahman Al Shaibani, secretary-general of the Executive Council of Dubai, in the statement.

Industry experts ranked the emirate sixth globally in terms of leading centres for port and logistics services and specialised logistics services, according to the statement.

The authority will continue to push for more infrastructure investments, introduce policies and regulations as well as hone more local expertise to expedite Dubai’s position as one of the world’s leading maritime hubs, stated Sultan Bin Sulayem, chairman of Dubai Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation and president of the DMCA.
