Dubai: His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, received Vicente Gonzalez Loscertales, secretary-general of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), at Zabeel Palace yesterday. Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince, was present.

During the meeting, Shaikh Mohammad and Loscertales discussed the economic and cultural significance of the World Expo 2020 because it brings together different civilisations and cultures and facilitates the exchange of knowledge. He stressed that the UAE has focused on constructing infrastructure that is in line with global standards and expressed confidence in the UAE's capacity, and Dubai's in particular, to host the World Expo 2020.

Loscertales praised the qualitative shift achieved by the UAE's comprehensive infrastructure and its human resources in the tourism and exhibition industry. He pointed out the prestigious standard of shopping malls, telecommunications and transportation.

The meeting was attended by Lieutenant-General Shaikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior; Shaikh Ahmad Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation and Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates airline and Group; Shaikh Ahmad Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation and President of the National Olympic Committee; Mohammad Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs, and other shaikhs and senior officials.
