Dubai: Eighteen companies were honoured for their business achievements by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, at the fourth Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum (MRM) Business Awards.

The winning companies were selected on the basis of the entrepreneurship displayed in the respective sectors, contribution to the economic development of the UAE and the overall business atmosphere, among other factors.

The Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI), the award organiser, aims to enhance the performance of companies and raise their profile internationally, thereby boosting the economy.

"If we don't achieve excellence, we will lose the race and will be left behind in the last row like a pack of deer that is closest to the claws of the lion," said Abdul Rahman Saif Al Ghurair, chairman of DCCI.

Sultan Bin Saeed Al Mansouri, Minister of Economy and chairman of the awards jury, said, "The winners would be an example for others to follow as the participating companies will get accurate evaluation and feedback report on their performance and achievements and can come back for the award's next session with renewed ability and zeal of competition."

Dubai Aluminum Company, Dubai Cable Company and Al Khaleej Sugar were among companies in the manufacturing sector that won the award.

In the finance sector, four institutions were honoured, namely Emirates NBD, Union National Bank, Sharjah Islamic Bank and Commercial Bank of Dubai.

Landmark group was named the winner in the re-export category, and Al Shafar General Contracting Company and S.S. Lootah Contracting Company won the award in the construction category.

In the real estate category, ETA Star Property Developer, won the award.

The award in the supply chain and logistics category went to three companies: Dubai Ports World, Al Islami Foods and the Dubai branch of Federal Express International INC.

The corporate social responsibility category award was won by two companies, S.S. Lootah Contracting and Federal Express International.

The final award, in the UAE free zones manufacturing category, was won by Unilever Gulf F.Z.E and Eurocon Building Industries FZE, part of Mulk Holdings.
