Dubai: US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton congratulated Dubai on the opening of Burj Khalifa in a letter that was delivered by a former White House official at The Dubai Forum on Tuesday.
"I applaud your commitment to sustainable development," the letter read. "Your efforts to create international cooperation in our global economy are an important endeavour."
Lanny J. Davis, a former White House Special Counsel, who delivered the letter during his speech at the conference, said Clinton has expressed the keywords to Dubai and the UAE which are cooperation, mutual respect, and sustainability. "The US wants to be a partner with the UAE in those goals," he said.
Davis described the inauguration ceremony of Burj Khalifa as an emblematic event that symbolised "a regeneration of hope for a world that has been beset by economic distress."
Beating expectations
Davis said the opening ceremony beat his own expectations. "[It was] about people, people who live here, the people who remember it was a desert," he said. "And now it's a community that led my eleven-year-old son to say ‘Dad what an exciting place to be'," he added.
