Dubai: His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, ordered the setting up of a Higher Committee for the implementation of the Dubai Smart City project.
The committee will be chaired by Mohammad Bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, Head of the Shaikh Mohammad executive office. The committee will include nine other members representing the public and private sector.
Shaikh Mohammad also tasked Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince, with supervising the implementation of the project.
Speaking on the occasion, Shaikh Hamdan said that Dubai is currently undergoing development booms that are accompanied by high ambitions and vast opportunities for ensuring the wellbeing of everyone living in the UAE.
“The current generation of youth are lucky to be at the centre of such a transformation and development, and they have the valuable opportunity to efficiently and actively contribute to the process of building a better future,” said Shaikh Hamdan.
Shaikh Hamdan stressed Shaikh Mohammad’s keenness to empower Emiratis, particularly the youth, in all fields by presenting them with opportunities, and granting them his unwavering trust in their capabilities to be key partners in the march of development.
Partnership
Shaikh Hamdan pointed out that the implementation of the Dubai Smart City project will be unique in its nature because it includes the largest partnership of its kind between Dubai’s public and private sector. He pointed out that the reason behind such a partnership is due to services rendered to citizens, residents and visitors not simply being restricted to governmental departments, but also airline companies, shopping malls, restaurants, hotels, banks and other service providing bodies.
“Implementing the project and improving the quality of life in the emirate requires cooperation between the public and private sector. The project will facilitate the completion of daily applications and activities, making the public’s life easier by taking advantage of the progress and prosperity achieved by Dubai,” said Shaikh Hamdan.
“The committee will immediately begin carrying out the directives of Shaikh Mohammad, and will work on drawing up an integrated multi-phase plan for executing the project, which will rank Dubai among leading and most sophisticated cities in the world, and further reaffirms its capabilities to achieve high standards of living for citizens, residents, and visitors,” added Shaikh Hamdan.
Shaikh Hamdan also stressed the importance of integrating the roles of various government bodies and private sector partners to ensure the successful implementation of the project.
Higher Committee board members include Sami Dahen Al Qamzi, Director General of Dubai’s Department of Economic Development, Major General Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina, Acting Chief of Dubai Police, Ahmad Bin Humaidan, Director General of Dubai eGovernment, Hilal Al Merri, Director General of Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing, Abdullah Abdul Rahman Al Sheibani, Secretary General of Dubai Executive Council, Ahmad Bin Bayat, Chairman of du, Awad Bin Hader Al Muhairi, Ahmad Julfar, CEO of etisalat, and Dr Amina Al Rostamani, Group CEO of Tecom Investments.
