Dubai: After witnessing a series of massive fires in the UAE this year, a real estate management company has launched an initiative to keep its thousands of tenants safe from home fires.

The Abu Dhabi Commercial Properties (ADCP) announced Monday that it will be distributing free fire blankets to its tenants once they renew their individual rental contracts.

A fire blanket is a safety device made of fire-resistant materials. It is designed to extinguish small fires such as burning cooking oil, waste-bin fires and other kitchen fires that can be wrapped or smothered quickly before they spread and cause greater damage.

ADCP said the "fire blanket initiative", which will eventually benefit more than 50,000 leaseholders, is a response to numerous hot-oil pan fires occurring in homes across the UAE.

"ADCP's main focus at present relates to the practical side of fire safety in the home, hence the positive fire blanket initiative whereby we are distributing to each of our tenants at no cost," Noel Roberts, head of asset management at ADCP, told Gulf News.

This safety device can also be purchased online for Dh62 to Dh190, depending on the size.

ADCP is a property services subsidiary of Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank. Its biggest project involves the management of 55 million square feet of buildings.
