Dubai: Sunday’s terrorist attack on Pakistan’s Jinnah International Airport left seven of Emirates Group’s [ground] staff dead and two injured, according to a statement sent by Emirates to Gulf News on Wednesday.

The deceased were a part of Emirates Group’s dnata unit, which provides air services as well as ground handling, cargo, travel, and flight catering services.

“dnata’s joint venture ground handling operation, Gerry’s dnata, has been significantly impacted by the June 8 terrorist attack in Karachi, Pakistan. We are deeply saddened to confirm that seven of our colleagues have died as a result of the attack and two others have been injured,” a dnata spokesperson said in a statement, adding that it is providing full support and assistance to their families and to all of its colleagues in Karachi.

“We are working closely with local authorities as they continue the investigation. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone who has been affected by this incident,” the spokesperson stated.

The UAE airline delayed and cancelled flights to Karachi on Monday and Tuesday following the attacks. Tuesday’s terrorist attack was on an airport security force base near the airport, according to reports.
