ABU DHABI: A first-of-its-kind live online bidding organised by a federal authority has resulted in saving Dh1.5 million.

The Emirates Identity Authority (Emirates ID) organised the live online competitive bidding event for the supply of some electronic equipment that the authority needed, an Emirates ID press release said on Monday.

Organised in cooperation with the company Tejari, the open bid resulted in the Emirates ID saving Dh1.5 million, which is 19 per cent of the total value of the bid, said Misbah Al Mismari, Executive Director of Corporate Services and Musanada at the Emirates ID. “Equally important is the high level of transparency that marks this kind of bids, as compared to conventional practices of closed tenders. This was in line with the Authority’s commitment to the principles of financial prudence and efficiency,” he said.

“The bid allowed the participants to directly quote competitively their offering prices without the need for negotiations and protracted meetings separately with each of them, saving valuable amount of time and efforts as well. Participation in the bid was governed by a few preconditions, such as sticking to the prices quoted in the bid, which lasted 37 minutes. The reduction of about 0.05 per cent of the initial price was fixed for every time the bidding company quotes a new price during the bid,” he explained.

Suhail Al Banna, Chairman of Tejari, said his company was committed to supporting the Emirates ID as a strategic partner with a view to enable it to achieve its objectives of developing its procurement practices in a competitive, smart and transparent environment.

The Emirates ID allocated, in coordination with Tejari, a telephone line for the bidders to contact during the bid and to provide them all support in case of any technical or other difficulties. The authority had in last June signed an agreement with Tejari, becoming the first federal entity to implement the Tejari system, which provided it with an exclusive procurement gate and a database of companies registered on Tejari platform.

Tejari provides training to Emirates ID’s employees and its suppliers the required training to use the online gateway and the participation modalities, besides conducting surveys and studies every month on the levels of services and the satisfaction of all parties involved.
