Dubai: Dubai's Supreme Energy Council yesterday held a meeting discussing a number of energy projects and strategies.

The meeting was chaired by Saeed Mohammad Al Tayer, deputy chairman of the Dubai Supreme Energy Council.

Al Tayer said that, in line with the council's strategy to manage energy demand, preparations for a tender for a specialised consultant to develop Dubai's Integrated Gas Strategy for 2030 — that also complements the Dubai Energy Strategy for 2030 — had been reviewed.

He said that the consultant will put in place a strategy based on natural gas to meet energy needs. Liquid gas pipelines and underground storage for the second quarter of 2012 were also discussed.

Al Tayer also said that the council discussed a proposal put forward by bidders regarding extension of the time period for receiving bids for the Hassyan-1 power plant project to December 2011. The contractor will be selected and an energy purchase agreement signed in the second quarter of 2012.

Al Tayer also reaffirmed the importance of signing a memorandum of understanding with the UN Development Programme pertaining to the UAE hosting the Arab Conference for Sustainability next year.
