Dubai: The 19th edition of Gulfood, set to kick off next week in Dubai, expects more than 450 leading halal manufacturers, processors and distributors to have a presence at the event.

The halal exhibitors, which will come from six continents, will feature under the Halal World Food profile at Gulfood to highlight Dubai’s position as a hub for the halal food industry.

Halal World Food will cover all aspects of related food services, retail and hospitality for the halal market.

Organisers stated on Monday that the halal companies will display energy drinks, vegan and vegetarian foods, meat and poultry, canned goods, gourmet and finds foods.

Last year, the Dubai Government commissioned a report from Thompson Reuters that stated that the global halal food market has an estimated annual value of $1 trillion.

Halal imports from Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries are expected to increase from $25.8 billion in 2010 to $53.1 billion by 2020, the organisers stated quoting the Economist Intelligence Unit. The UAE’s annual halal food imports will reach $8.4 billion by 2020.

Gulfood is hosted at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre and will run from Sunday (February 23) until Thursday (February 27).
