Sharjah: With the aim of hiring more young Emiratis and graduates, several industry sectors, led by the banking and financial segment, will take part in Sharjah’s National Career Exhibition from February 20-22 at the Sharjah Expo Centre.

In its 15th edition, the exhibition will also focus on increasing the number of Emiratis working in the private sector, and will include recruitment agencies from both the public and private sectors.

With around 1,500 people graduating from universities in Sharjah each year, the banking sector alone plans to offer 1,000 jobs in 2013.

“We already have 318 jobs in the banking sector and we plan to reach 1,000 if not more,” said Saif Mohammad Al Midfa, Director- General of Expo Centre Sharjah at a press conference in Sharjah on Sunday.

Other sectors also aim to provide more than 2,500 jobs for graduates, added Al Midfa.

“The National Career Exhibition will be a stepping stone from college and university education to a new world of employment, training and summer placements in the banking and financial industry, which is keen to train, recruit and retain qualified national youth,” explained Al Midfa.

The financial sector is also set to increase hiring due to the number of large-scale projects announced recently in the country, added Al Midfa.

Some of the projects announced include the Mohammad Bin Rashid City, the $2.7 billion entertainment complex in Jebel Ali, a $ 1 billion replica of the Taj Mahal, a canal connecting Dubai’s business district to the sea, and Adnoc’s projects worth billions of dollars.

Alongside the Career Exhibition, which will be inaugurated of His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Member of the UAE Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, the International Education Show will also take place at the Expo Centre enabling visiting UAE national graduates to check out higher education opportunities at leading local and international colleges and universities.
