New Delhi: The UAE and India signed on Tuesday a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the recruitment of Indian workers to work in the UAE in accordance with legal rules and practices.

The revised MoU allows the ministry in implementing web-based attestation procedure for employment contracts for Indian workers in the UAE by the Embassy of India, Abu Dhabi.

A need to revise the MoU, between the two countries signed in December, 2006 was felt to address various problems faced by the Indian workers in the UAE.

The memo was signed by Saqr Gobash, UAE Minister of Labour, who is currently on a visit to India, and Vayalar Ravi, Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs.

Gobash praised the cooperative relations and friendship between the UAE and India. He pointed out that currently there are 1.7 million Indians working in the UAE in various fields.

He expressed his hope for more cooperation, and more benefits achieved by Indian employees and workers during their temporary stay in the UAE. He said that this also generally benefits the economies of both countries.
