Dubai: The Minister of Labour issued a resolution allowing shops and shopping malls to hire additional employees to cope with the activities and increase in customers during the ‘Eid in Dubai’ event.

According to the resolution issued by Saqr Gobash, Minister of Labour, commercial establishments will be exempted from fees related to employment permits during the event, allowing them to hire additional employees for a one-month period.

The resolution was issued in line with the directives of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

“The resolution aims to lessen the burden of the employees of these establishments in coping with the increase in the number of customers, and allowing establishments to meet their needs for additional employees to serve the rising number of customers,” said Gobash.

“Establishments will be allowed to hire employees from within the UAE for specific tasks that require fewer working hours than the permanent employees. The permits will be valid for a period of one month. Establishments will be allowed to hire employees who are registered at the Ministry of Labour and have valid labour cards,” said Gobash.

“Eligible categories for people who are under the sponsorship of their parents are females of 18 years of age or above, husbands of Emirati women, and sons and daughters of Emiratis. School and University students, 18 years and above, as well as employees in government departments are also eligible for those permits. Government employees, however, will have to acquire the permission of their employers first. The permits will not be issued for those older than 65 years,” added the minister.
