Dubai: Less than half of the staff working in federal government entities are Emiratis, the latest report of the National Human Resource Development and Employment Authority's (Tanmia) revealed.

Of the 65,000 employees in different ministries and federal entities, only about 28,000 are Emiratis, according to Tanmia's report.

The total work force in both the public and private sectors is 5.6 million.

The report said Tanmia was able to find jobs for more than 11,000 Emirati job seekers while 8,000 others underwent training during the same period, according to the report which was released during a forum on Emiratisation in the federal government held on Monday.

The centralisation of public sector jobs in Abu Dhabi and Dubai was among the factors identified by forum participants on why fewer Emiratis were given jobs in the government. Majority of Emirati job seekers, the participants said, are from the northern Emirates.

The biggest number of unemployed Emiratis is based in Ras Al Khaimah with more than 2,500 job seekers. Majority of job seekers are females, according to the report.

Another factor cited by participants is the difference in salary packages between the federal and local governments.
