Sharjah: The Expo Centre in Sharjah will host the 11th edition of the biannual International Automobile Show this Wednesday. In a panel at the Expo Centre, the participating dealers discussed the new vehicle models that will debut. Exhibitors, like Mitsubishi and GM, announced that new models would be shown for the first time at the Expo.

Liberty Automobiles Co. will debut the long-anticipated Camaro Firebreather, which they expect will draw fans from across the UAE to the show. The mid-size car has been featured in the Hollywood thriller ‘Jinn’. Duncan Peat, Managing Director at Liberty, said they hope to sell 15 cars at the show against the 9 they sold in 2010.

Officials from UAE-based dealerships, including BMW, Mitsubishi, Cadillac, Cheverolet, Opel, Audi, Merecdez Benz and Nissan, revealed more details about their marquees, which they will be displaying at the show.

Al Habtoor Motors, the distributor for Mitsubishi, said they would be showcasing two new models for the first time. “One of these cars which will be unveiled for the first time in the GCC has had great success with over 30,000 units sold in Thailand since its launch in March of this year. The second car has already hit the showrooms last month but will be officially unveiled at 11th Sharjah International Automobile Show. These two new models signify a change in MMC model lineup, bringing together a blend of the new and the old. We are very confident that the UAE public and our loyal Mitsubishi customers will embrace these two new models.” said Mrs Mersedeh Mahdi, GM Marketing at Al Habtoor.

Al Nabooda, the Dubai Audi agent, which has inaugurated the largest Audi showroom in the world in Dubai last week, said they will be showing the new S models (S6, S7 and S8).

AGMC discussed their new 7 series while Mercedes-Benz talked about G65 and its new SL.

Nissan and Infiniti’s dealer Arabian Automobiles said they will be taking up 1,400 sq. metre of floor space to exhibit 22 cars, including the Infiniti JX35 and the GT-R, which Ghassan Nasser, Sales General Manager, described as Nissan’s iconic model.

The show clearly packs more promise for this year, especially with the inclusion of the Middle East Motor Awards, which will take place on the opening day, according to Saif Al Midfa, Director-General of Expo Centre, Sharjah. According to Paiman El Milla, Regional Director of AGMC, visitors will be given a chance to drive the Mini in a competition.

The International Automobile Show opens to the public on Wednesday at 10 am and will run till Saturday. Entry is free for all visitors.
