Abu Dhabi Abu Dhabi Exhibition organiser Sial Middle East said yesterday it will feature the first-of-its-kind Middle East Food Summit held in association with the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority, which will include a high-level Ministerial Conference to explore the development of an integrated food policy for the GCC countries.

According to a report by the World Trade Organisation, the GCC imports more than 90 per cent of its food supplies for its population of around 36 million, making it the world's largest food importer.

Furthermore, it is estimated that Arab countries need to invest around $144 billion (Dh528 billion) in agriculture between now and 2030 to meet the growing food demand, with investments needed from both the private and public sectors.

The GCC's reliance on food imports, along with investment opportunities within the region's food and food service market will be discussed at Sial Middle East, to be held from November 22 to 24 in Abu Dhabi.
