Abu Dhabi : The State Audit Institution (SAI) this week held at its headquarters in Abu Dhabi a workshop for Federal Government top officials on the importance of corporate governance, and how it can be implemented in the SAI's audit methodology.

Dr Hareb Al Amimi, the SAI's president, said in his opening speech: "This workshop is held as a step for achieving the SAI's objectives which are promoting the performance level in the Federal Government, enhancing governance practices, and reviewing the SAI's control practices, procedures and systems implemented for safeguarding public money."

He said this meeting is considered a new step to understand the basic concepts of financial control and governance in the public sector, indicating the importance of such workshops to enhance communication and support transparency and consultation between the SAI and Federal Ministries. This workshop includes all the organisations being audited and will be held periodically to develop the national work concept to develop the performance level and support the comprehensive development processes in the UAE.

The workshop highlighted the levels of corporate governance and focused on the results and overall objectives of developing corporate standards, as well as adopting best international practices in implementing integrated governance, controlling public money and enhancing responsibility.
